Volunteer
Skilled volunteering is what makes this work. Engineers, IT staff and project managers are what we are short of, not goodwill.
Skilled volunteering
Most of what the Foundation delivers depends on someone who already knows how to do it. These are the roles that come up repeatedly.
- Electrical and energy. Lighting retrofits, solar installation, load assessment, efficiency surveys.
- IT and networking. Lab builds, network infrastructure, device imaging, systems that a nonprofit cannot staff for.
- Software and web. Site rebuilds and the internal tools small nonprofits run on.
- Project management. Scoping, scheduling and keeping a volunteer build on a timeline.
General volunteering
Build days, supply drives and club events need hands more than credentials. These are usually announced a few weeks ahead and run on a single day.
Interns
Since 2021 the Foundation has placed paid interns in Boys & Girls Clubs technology labs during the summer sessions. Interns run instruction, keep the labs working and refine the programming. Placements are arranged through the clubs.
